In The Works is Actor's Express' staged-reading series dedicated to presenting new work by Atlanta-based playwrights. THE STROKE: A COMEDY, written during the first few months of my residency at Emory, focuses on Adam and Maya, a married couple in their early 40s, the night before a last-ditch effort to conceive in-vitro. When Adam receives a call from Maya’s institutionalized sister begging him to reconsider the procedure, Maya is forced to reveal a troubling family secret. The arrival of Mom and Dad doesn't make things any easier and a series of twisty revelations, personal manipulations and forced confrontations threaten to rip this family apart, which may actually not be such a bad thing.

A family play about rich white people that takes place in a living room in Manhattan and deals in buried family secrets. Standard. Except not. Because you're supposed to laugh at this one.
